To play Mega Man X8 16-bit in your browser, you need the game ZIP from its creator and a supported browser. This guide covers adding the game, checking controls and sound, and backing up your saves.
On a Mac and comparing other ways to play? Start with the Mac options guide.
Before you start
Mega Man X8 16-bit is AlyssonDaPaz’s fan-made demake of Mega Man X8, redrawn in the style of the Super Nintendo Mega Man X games. Version 1.0 is playable from start to finish with X. Download the game ZIP from the creator’s showcase page.
Add the game and start playing
- Open Your browser. This checks the browser features the player needs.
- Open Add a game, select Choose file, and choose the game ZIP as you downloaded it. You can also drop the ZIP onto the upload area, or add the game’s EXE on its own.
- On the game page, choose Play Now.
- Follow the player’s start prompt, then click the game screen so it receives your keyboard input.
You do not need Windows or the game’s EXE launcher for this route.
Check movement, menus and sound first
Before your first stage, test moving left and right, jumping, shooting, dashing and pausing. Confirm you can also back out of a menu.
The default keys are arrow keys to move, D to shoot or confirm, S to jump, A to dash or go back, and Enter to pause. The controls guide has the full list and shows how to remap them.
For a controller, connect it and press a button. The game reads it directly, and you can change its buttons in the game’s own key settings.
If sound is silent, select Start game when shown, then check the player volume and your device’s output. If the game stutters, lower the target FPS in the game’s options; a higher target uses more CPU.
Save, then keep a backup outside the browser
Use the game’s normal save feature. Before ending the session, stop it with the player’s controls. Open Saves, select the game if asked, and choose Download current saves to export the current save files.
Keep that file somewhere you can find it, with a note of the game version. To use it with another version, open Saves for that version, choose Import backup, then Restore beside the imported backup.
Clearing this site’s browser data can remove local saves. Export them before resetting the browser or removing game data.
When something does not work
- Adding the game fails: download the ZIP again and read the displayed error.
- The player stops or shows an error: note the exact message and run the browser check.
- Keys do nothing: close menus or dialogs, click the game screen, and check Controls and the game’s own key settings.
- A controller performs the wrong action: check the game’s key settings first, then Controls.
If you need help, include the game version, browser version, device, error text and what happened just before the problem.
