To play Mega Man X6 in your browser, copy your PS1 disc as CUE/BIN, put the files in one ZIP and add it to RetroHours. Choose Play Now and the game starts straight from the disc, with no BIOS or emulator to set up.
The US, European and Japanese (Rockman X6) releases all work, including cutscenes, music and memory card saves.
About Mega Man X6
Mega Man X6 came out on the PlayStation in 2001. Zero is missing after the events of X5, a mysterious Nightmare phenomenon is spreading, and the researcher Gate has put eight Maverick investigators to work. You play as X and rescue trapped Reploids along the way; Zero becomes playable later.
The eight Mavericks are Commander Yammark, Rainy Turtloid, Shield Sheldon, Blizzard Wolfang, Blaze Heatnix, Ground Scaravich, Metal Shark Player and Infinity Mijinion.
No disc? Capcom also sells Mega Man X6 in Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 for modern consoles and PC.
The original or the X6 Remake?
When players mention the “Mega Man X6 Remake”, they usually mean Mega Man X: Viral Nightmare, Cat Yard Games’ free fan-made reimagining of X6. It’s a separate game, and RetroHours plays it too: see how to play Mega Man X: Viral Nightmare.
Copy your disc and make the ZIP
- Copy the disc as BIN/CUE with a disc copying program. The PS1 setup guide lists tools that work.
- Check that you have a
.cuefile and its.binfile or files, for exampleMega Man X6.cueandMega Man X6.bin. - Compress them together into one ZIP. Don’t rename the BIN files afterwards.
Add the game and start
- Open Add a game, select Choose ZIP and pick your ZIP.
- When the copy finishes, choose Play Now on the game page. PS1 games don’t need approval.
- Select Start game, then click the game screen.
- Press Enter (Start) at the title screen to begin.
Controls
RetroHours passes your keys to the PS1 controller buttons:
| PS1 button | Keyboard |
|---|---|
| D-pad | Arrow keys |
| Cross | Z |
| Circle | X |
| Square | A |
| Triangle | S |
| L1 / R1 | Q / W |
| L2 / R2 | E / R |
| Start | Enter |
| Select | Space |
To use different keys, open Controls → Buttons and change the Keyboard column. On a controller, buttons match the PS1 layout by position, so the bottom face button is Cross. The PS1 controls guide has the details.
Keep your save safe
Save from the game’s menus as usual; RetroHours keeps the game’s memory card in this browser. Before closing the tab, stop the session with the player’s controls so the card is written.
Download a backup from Saves once in a while. Coming from another emulator? Import your memory card file there and choose Restore. The memory card guide walks through it.
If something goes wrong
- The import says it isn’t a game: make sure the ZIP has the
.cueand every.binit lists, from one disc. - Music or cutscenes are missing: the copy is probably incomplete. Make a new BIN/CUE copy.
- Keys do nothing: click the game screen first.
